“This isn’t a date, you know that, right?”
He chuckled. “I’m aware, but trust me, you’ll appreciate the sheets. No matter what anyone tells you, having sex on hay is awful.”
He took another step forward and she felt the pulse of desire simmering between them. Her heart raced and heat overwhelmed her. This felt personal—too personal.
She took a full step back, again stopping him. “There is no romance with friends with benefits.”
“There should be.” One brow slowly lifted. “You deserve that, Nora.”
She gulped, feeling for these last minutes that she wasn’t the one holding all the cards, and Beau was taking this somewhere they said they wouldn’t go. “What about Austin?” she blurted out.
Again, he froze, a smile playing on the corners of his mouth. “He always knows if he needs me to come to the barn. This is where I’d be if I’m not in the house.”
“Okay, well,” she said, suddenly breathless under the weight of his burning stare, “what if he walks up here?”
“He won’t,” Beau said, heat edging his voice. “He’d call out for me the moment he walks in. We’d have time to get dressed.”
That brow lifted higher, his head cocking a little bit more. “Any other concerns?”
She swallowed deeply, fully running out of reasons why she should let this moment happen. “No, no other concerns.”
“Good.” Then his mouth met hers, and his kiss shattered her.
Full of his usual confidence, with an added swell of emotion, his tongue was sweet fire against hers. His kiss glided against her in a sensual embrace, and she fell gladly into his hold, wanting to give him all of herself. But with each hot swirl of his tongue across hers, she realized she needed to give him more to remind him this thing between them was, and would stay, just about sex.
